Geography topic week.

Hi everyone.

What a busy time we’ve had! We’ve been looking at the human features around our school, in Derby centre and even London!

As part of this we did some junk modelling and made buildings we knew about. See our photos below.

This week we’re practicing the recount of our trip to the cinema in Quad. See our washing line for all the details!

Thanks from all the Year 1 team.

Welcome back!

Hi everyone.

We hope you all had a great half term.

Today was an exciting day for year 1. We accidentally walked through a portal and ended up in Wonderland! There we met some interesting people having a tea party! Check out our photos below!

Also see our story map to help practice Alice in Wonderland at home.

Thanks for reading!

Roald Dahl, cakes and more!

Hello everyone.

These past few weeks have been a blur with fun and hard work.

From sharing our favourite books on Roald Dahl day to hopping like frogs or eating cakes for charity, it feels like we haven’t stopped! Have a look at the pictures below to see how much fun we had!

In Science we are looking at different types of animals and thier unique characteristics. Where do fish live? Do whales have hair? Are crocodiles amphibians or reptiles? All these questions have been swimming around our brains and we are working hard to find the answers!

In English, we have finished our first fiction text piece about a dancing giraffe called Gerald. Now we leaning about real life giraffes and non-fiction, non-chronological reports. See all of the facts on our washing lines for all the amazing facts we know.

In Maths we have been practicing our addition and subtraction on both our fingers and on a numberlines. Some of us can even do it in our heads! This week we are looking at shapes and lines of symmetrey.

As always thanks for reading!

Art week!

Hello everyone.

Our first few weeks back have been busy.

In our first week together we had Art week. We decided to look at a painting by a man called John Banovich who is an American oil painter known for his paintings of wildlife. By looking at the painting ‘The Twins’ we were able to imitate his style using our own paints.

Once we had completed that it was time to innovate and use as many different mediums of art as we could think of including chalk and charcoal! You can see in our photos how much fun we had.

To show how much we learnt, we decided to invent another of John Banovich’s paintings. This time however, we used our favourite medium. I must say they look amazing!

This week we have been learning the story Giraffes can’t dance, a wishing tale about poor Gerald the giraffe. We have spent all week learning the story and putting actions to the words. We are so good we even included extra voices and expressions!

In Science we went on a Butterfly hunt to see camouflage in action around us! We found it really tricky to find some of the better camouflaged ones.

Thanks for reading.
